GET INVOLVED IN EPPING'S FAMILY FUN RUN - 10th JULY

This is certainly not the first time I have used this blog to support the fantastic work of the Rhys Daniels Trust; a charity which has very deep roots in our town. Once again, the Trust will host to an annual 5 mile family fun run, which will begin at Epping Sports Centre in Hemnall Street at 11am on Sunday 10th July, before following a well trodden route through the beautiful Epping Forest.

Last year, over 100 runners of all ages and all abilities took part in the run. Participant
s walked, jogged and ran, at their own pace. To enter, the charity has a £10 advance entry fee or a £15 entry fee on the day. All money raised with go towards the 'Home-from-Home' appeal. The Trust are not only looking for entrants for the race, but they are also looking for volunteers who are willing to act as marshals on the day. To contact the Trust, please click here. To add this event on Facebook, please click here. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 10th July.

EPPING'S DUKE OF ESSEX POLO TROPHY - REVIEW

Once again, Epping's Gayne's Park Estate played host to the renowned 'Duke of Essex Polo Trophy', a glamorous star-studded event which saw Katie Price (AKA glamour model Jordan) acting as the events Patron.

The event was also attended by a range of other celebrity guests, including Penny Lancaster (Epping residents and wife of Rod Stewart), Vicki Michelle (Loughton resident of ‘Allo ‘Allo fame), Michelle Heaton (Liberty X singer), Nick Knowles (BBC presenter), Jack Tweed (Buckhurst Hill resident & husband of the late Jade Goody) and Jackiey Budden (High Beach resident & mother of the late Jade Goody), many of whom arrived by helicopter.

Also in attendance to entertain the crowds were American superstars Kelly Rowland (of Destiny’s Child) and Jocelyn Brown. VIP guests enjoyed a four-course lunch prepared by award-winning chef Jean Christophe Novelli before the England v’s Argentina polo tournament begun. The main arena played host to show jumping, motorcycle displays, the Black Knights parachute jumps and an air show by AeroStars.

This year’s event was officially supporting The Vision Charity, which raises money for blind, visual impaired and dyslexic children, as well as the Rhys Daniels Trust, which provides 'Home from Home' accommodation at the UK’s major children's hospitals and for Jo’s Trust, which is helping to fight cervical cancer.

DATE FOR THE DIARY - Sunday 5th July 2009

Epping-based charity, the Rhys Daniel's Trust is once again hosting their Family Fun Run on Sunday 5th July 2009 to raise funds for their 'Home from Home' appeal. This year will celebrate the 14th year of the 5 mile race taking place, which starts at Epping Sport Centre in Hemnall Street and progresses through Bell Common and into Epping Forest in a loop ending back in Hemnall Street. I had the honour of starting last year's race which was won by Snooker World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and also saw an entry from 101 year old Buster Martin.

If you would like to enter this year's race or could help the charity on the day by acting as a mashall, please call 01992 570550 or email info@rhysdanielstrust.org or for further information on last year's race, please click here.
