DISABLED TOILETS IN BAKERS LANE MUST BE IMPROVED

Local resident, Penny Pepper has today drawn to my attention, via the Epping Forest Guardian, the disgraceful state of the disabled toilets at Bakers Lane car park and has created an excellent video to show what she experienced recently, which can be viewed here.

The toilet is operated by Epping Town Council and as such I have agreed to raise the item at our Council meeting tomorrow night to see what immediate action can be taken to make the required ‘basic standards’ improvements.

As Miss Pepper has said, "
It’s not just people in wheelchairs that use these toilets, Epping has a lot of elderly people, they need bars to hold onto and a hygienic place to leave walking sticks."

There is also a sign above the toilet door which reads "Invalid", a term previously used for disabled people, means useless, which simply must be removed!

I will report back with progress on this issue.

  1. Come now Mr Murphy, please do not misinform the public. You read about this story on the Guardian's website and using their message board asked Ms Pepper to contact you. Please do not try and make it seem like she personally came to you for help.

You are hardly Mr Fix It, you are just chasing a vote at this election time, while at the same time trying to get some positive PR!

Anyway, you were for the past whole year Mayor of Epping. Why didn't you do somthing about this then, when you had greater authority?

  2. Mr. Littlechild, thank you for your comments.

Indeed I was made aware of the situation via a call from the Epping Forest Guardian and have amended the article to make that clearer. My apologies if that seemed misleading.

Of course, this matter hasn't been tackled previously as it has never been drawn to my attention as an issue requiring attention. It has now and I am doing all I can to draw the matter to the authorities attention to see what can be done to make improvements.

PS. I have no requirement to chase votes, I am not standing for election!
